ABOUT LAVNI
Lavni is a Medicaid-first online therapy platform. We help people use their Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial insurance to see licensed therapists. Most visits happen online by secure video, so you can meet from home or another private place.
We focus on making therapy easier to find and easier to afford, especially for people who often feel shut out of care.
You tell us your state, your plan, and what you want help with. We show you therapists who are in-network with your plan and licensed in your state. You choose who feels right, book a time, and meet by video.
We help check your benefits and handle many billing steps in the background, so you can focus on your sessions. Learn more about how Lavni works.
Right now, Lavni serves clients in North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia. Most care is online, but you must be physically in one of these states during your session.
We are adding more states over time. If you live in a different state, check back with us later.
Lavni is for clients, therapists, group practices, and payers.
If you are a client, we help you find a therapist who takes your plan. If you are a therapist, we help you work with Medicaid and other plans. If you run a practice or are a payer, we help you manage care and billing.

No. You do not need a prescription or referral to start therapy with Lavni. You can sign up and book a session on your own.

GETTING STARTED AS A CLIENT
Getting started is simple:
Most people can book their first session within 1 to 2 days.
Your first session is a chance to meet your therapist and share what brings you in. They will ask about your goals, your history, and how you have been feeling.
You can read more in our guide: What to expect in your first therapy session (with Medicaid or insurance).
You can read therapist profiles to see their experience, specialties, and approach. You might look for someone who:
You can always switch therapists later if the fit is not right. Learn more about how to find a Medicaid therapist near you.
Most people start with weekly sessions. As you make progress, you and your therapist might move to every other week or once a month.
How often you meet depends on your goals, your plan's coverage, and what feels right for you. Your therapist can help you decide.
Most sessions happen online by secure video. You meet from your computer, phone, or tablet as long as you have a private place and good internet.
You and your therapist will use our secure video platform. You can also message your therapist through the Lavni platform between sessions if needed.
Yes. You can switch therapists at any time. If the fit is not right, you can look for someone else who takes your plan.
You can read How to tell if therapy is working for ideas on when it might be time to make a change.
INSURANCE, MEDICAID, AND COSTS
Lavni is Medicaid-first, but we also work with Medicare and major commercial plans like Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, and Cigna.
We focus on Medicaid because many people with Medicaid have trouble finding therapists who take their plan. But we support other plans too.
You can check if your plan is covered when you search for a therapist.
If you use Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial insurance, your cost depends on your plan. Many people with Medicaid pay $0 to $3 per session. With other plans, you might pay a copay like $10, $20, or $25.
We help check your benefits before you start, so you know what to expect. See our Pricing page for more details.
You can also read Getting started with therapy on a budget for ideas on managing costs.
You can call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask about mental health coverage. Or you can use Lavni to check your benefits when you search for a therapist.
We have a guide that walks you through this: Using Medicaid and insurance for therapy.
You can also read Understanding mental health coverage and benefits for a deeper look at how plans work.
If you do not have insurance, you can still use Lavni. We offer out-of-pocket options with clear pricing.
You might also check if you qualify for Medicaid in your state. Many people are surprised to learn they qualify.
See our Pricing page for details on out-of-pocket costs.
We try to prevent surprise bills by checking your benefits before you start. We tell you what your copay is and if there are any visit limits.
If you get a bill that seems wrong, you can call us or your insurance plan. We can help you understand what happened.
"In-network" means the therapist has a contract with your insurance plan. This usually makes your cost lower than seeing someone who is "out-of-network."
Lavni focuses on showing you in-network therapists so you can use your benefits and keep costs low.
APPOINTMENTS AND CARE
Once you choose a therapist, you can see their available times and book online. Many therapists have same-day or next-day openings.
You will get a confirmation and a video link for your session.
You can cancel or reschedule through your Lavni account. Try to do this at least 24 hours before your session if you can.
If you cancel very late or do not show up, there may be a fee depending on your plan and the therapist's policy. Your therapist can explain their cancellation policy.
You might notice small changes over time: better sleep, less anxiety, feeling more hopeful, or using new tools from therapy.
Your therapist may also use simple check-ins like PHQ-9 or GAD-7 to track how you are feeling over time.
You can read How to tell if therapy is working for more signs to watch for.
You must be physically in North Carolina, Georgia, or Virginia during your session. Your therapist must be licensed in the state where you are located.
You can meet from home, your car, or another private place, as long as you are in one of these states.
If your video or sound does not work, you can try refreshing the page or switching to a phone call if your therapist offers that option.
If you keep having problems, contact Lavni support and we can help troubleshoot or reschedule your session.
PRIVACY, SAFETY, AND AUDITS
Lavni encrypts your data and is built to be HIPAA-compliant. This means we follow strict rules about how we handle your health information.
Your therapist cannot share what you talk about without your permission, except in rare cases where safety is a concern.
You can read our full Privacy Policy for details.
Lavni uses technology to create a secure record of each session. Session information is time-stamped and stored in a way that cannot be changed later. This helps create a clear audit trail for payers and reduces fraud risk.
This does not change your privacy. Your therapist still cannot share what you talk about. It just helps prove that sessions happened when they were supposed to.
Lavni uses simple, standard tools to track how symptoms change over time. These include PHQ-9 for depression, GAD-7 for anxiety, and PCL-5 for trauma.
Your therapist may ask you to fill these out every few weeks. The scores help you and your therapist see if therapy is helping. They also help payers and clinics understand outcomes and support value-based care.
These tools are short and easy to complete. They do not replace your conversations with your therapist.
Your therapist writes notes about your sessions. These are private and protected by HIPAA.
In most cases, only your therapist and the Lavni team (for billing and support) can see these notes. Your insurance plan may request records for audits, but they cannot see your full therapy notes without your permission.
If you have questions about who can see what, ask your therapist or contact Lavni support.

We work with licensed therapists and associate-licensed clinicians in North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia.
Lavni helps you work with Medicaid, Medicare, and major commercial plans like Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, and Cigna.
We focus on Medicaid because many therapists find Medicaid billing complicated. We handle a lot of the paperwork and claims so you can focus on your clients.
Lavni handles many billing tasks in the background. We help with claims, check benefits, and work with insurance plans so you do not have to chase every detail.
You can read more in our blog: How Lavni supports therapists with billing.
You need to be licensed or associate-licensed in North Carolina, Georgia, or Virginia. We verify all licenses with state boards.
We work with Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), Psychologists, and other licensed mental health professionals.
Lavni handles claims and payments. Once a session is completed and the claim is approved, you get paid according to your contract with Lavni.
Payment details are set during onboarding. You can ask about payment schedules when you apply.
FOR GROUP PRACTICES AND PAYERS
Lavni helps group practices manage Medicaid and other insurance billing, track outcomes, and reduce fraud risk.
We provide tools for clinical directors to see how clients are doing over time and to support value-based care.
Learn more at Practice management.
Lavni helps payers expand access to mental health care, reduce fraud risk, and support value-based care with clear data and audit-ready records.
We track outcomes using standard measures like PHQ-9, GAD-7, and PCL-5, and we create immutable audit trails for each session.
Learn more at For payers or read How Lavni supports payers in mental health.
Lavni creates secure, time-stamped records of each session that cannot be changed later. This helps create an audit trail that payers and regulators can trust.
